Little Ann, born Ann Bridgeforth, was a soul singer-songwriter from Chicago. She showed early promise in her career, recording a single for the Ric-Tic label in 1969. Despite being ushered into the studio by a Detroit producer to record an album, her aspirations for national recognition faded over time, and the tapes of her album remained undiscovered for two decades. In 1990, British soul collectors found the album in Hamilton's vaults, leading to a gradual rediscovery of Little Ann, with several of her songs featured on compilations by the U.K.'s Ace/Kent imprint. In the early 1970s, Ann also recorded and released two singles in Canada under her real name. She later re-recorded "Who Are You Trying To Fool" in the early 2000s for a project titled "Strange World Of Northern Soul." Little Ann passed away in 2003, but she witnessed an unexpected revival in her career, even performing in the U.K. to enthusiastic fans. It is important to note that "Rose Valentine" was used as an alias to conceal Little Ann's identity when her recordings were played on the Northern Soul Scene, although she is not the same artist as Rose Valentine.
