Little Anthony And The Imperials is an American rhythm and blues, doo-wop, vocal harmony, and soul vocal group from New York City, formed in the 1950s. They evolved out of earlier groups and signed with a record label in 1958, achieving significant success with million-selling hits right from the start. However, by 1961, the group experienced a decline in popularity, leading lead singer Anthony Gourdine to leave the group to pursue a solo career. After his departure, the group changed some personnel and recorded a few singles for the Carlton label, which did not perform well on the charts. By the end of 1963, Gourdine returned to the group, having found limited success on his own. The classic line-up of Gourdine, Wright, Collins, and Strain soon regained success with a series of hits between 1964 and 1969. Although their success diminished in the 1970s and beyond, they have remained active in various line-ups over the decades. The group was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2009 as performers.
