Little Anthony & the Imperials is an American rhythm and blues, doo-wop, vocal harmony, and soul vocal group from New York City, formed in the 1950s. They evolved out of earlier groups and signed with a record label in 1958, achieving significant million-selling successes right from the start. However, by 1961, the group experienced a decline in popularity, leading lead singer Anthony Gourdine to leave the group in pursuit of a solo career. After his departure, the group changed some of their personnel and recorded several singles for the Carlton label, which did not perform well on the charts. By the end of 1963, Little Anthony returned to the group after finding limited success on his own. The classic line-up of Gourdine, Wright, Collins, and Strain soon regained success with a series of hits between 1964 and 1969. Although their success diminished in the 1970s and beyond, they have remained active over the decades with various line-ups. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009 as performers.
