Live Skull is a New York noise-rock band that was formed in 1982 by guitarists Mark C and Tom Paine, alongside bassist Marnie Greenholz and drummer James Lo. The band played a significant role in defining the "noise rock" genre during the 1980s, alongside acts like Sonic Youth and Swans, and was instrumental in the post-No Wave underground music scene in NYC. Over the course of the decade, Live Skull released eight albums, known for their brutal yet strangely seductive sound that crafted hooks from unlikely and disruptive elements, challenging traditional rock forms. Despite their influence on many contemporaries, the band disbanded in 1989, just as the music they pioneered began to gain wider recognition. In 2016, Mark C and Richard Hutchins revived the band, releasing three additional albums.
