Living Colour is an American rock band from New York City, formed in 1984. The band solidified its lineup in the mid-80s, featuring guitarist Vernon Reid, vocalist Corey Glover, drummer Will Calhoun, and bassist Doug Wimbish. Their music is a creative fusion influenced by free jazz, funk, hard rock, and heavy metal, with lyrics that often address personal and political themes, including critiques of Eurocentrism and racism in America. The band's debut album, “Vivid,” was released in 1988 on Epic Records, reaching #6 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart and earning double platinum certification from the RIAA. It featured the hit single “Cult of Personality,” which peaked at #13 on the Billboard 200 Singles chart and won the band their first Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance. The album also included the Top 40 hit “Glamour Boys.” In 1990, Living Colour released their second full-length album, “Time's Up,” which reached #13 on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold. It won a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Album and featured guest appearances by notable artists such as Queen Latifah, Little Richard, Doug E. Fresh, and Maceo Parker.
