Liza Ngwa, born Elizabeth Manyongha Nyongha in September 1936, was a pioneering figure in the arts as the first woman director of the National Ballet of Cameroon. Over a span of thirty years, she showcased a remarkable range of creativity as a painter, sculptress, costume designer, guitarist, dancer, singer, choreographer, poet, and sportswoman. With her band L'ERMITE, she toured internationally and recorded three albums with Sonodisc and Drums before taking the helm of the National Ballet of Cameroon. Liza Ngwa passed away in September 1997.
