Lloyd Price was an American R&B and soul singer, songwriter, businessman, and label owner, born on March 9, 1933, in Kenner, Louisiana, USA. He passed away on May 3, 2021, in New Rochelle, New York, USA. Nicknamed 'Mr. Personality' after his hit single of the same name, Price achieved significant success with his first single for a record label, which topped the R&B charts upon its release in 1952. After being drafted into the army during the Korean War, Price founded several record labels and had multiple hit singles. He also established a nightclub in New York City called "Lloyd Price's Turntable." Following the murder of his business partner at his nightclub in 1969, he distanced himself from the music industry and moved to Africa. There, he collaborated with promoter Don King to stage Muhammad Ali boxing matches in Zaire and Manila. In recognition of his contributions to music, Price was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. His songs have been covered by various artists. It is important not to confuse him with his brother, who wrote "Send Me Some Lovin'" and "Can't Believe You Wanna Leave."
