Lo-Key is an American R&B/hip hop band formed in Kansas City, Missouri, and Minneapolis, Minnesota. The group consists of Lance "LA" Alexander, André "Dré" Shepard, Tyrone "T-Bone" Yarbrough, Darron "D" Story, and Tony "Prof. T" Tolbert. They gained recognition with their single "I Got A Thang 4 Ya!" which topped the Billboard Hot R&B Singles chart for a week and peaked at No. 27 on the Hot 100. Lo-Key, which honed its skills around the Minneapolis club circuit, signed to Jam & Lewis' record label, Perspective Records, and released their debut album, Where Dey At?, on October 6, 1992. The music video for their hit single was directed by Arthur Jafa, known for his work on the independent film Daughters of the Dust. In addition to their own success, Alexander and Tolbert have made significant contributions as songwriters and producers for other artists. Notable hits they produced include "Butta Love" by Next, "Love Makes No Sense" for Alexander O'Neal, "I Wish" for Shanice, and "Strawberries" for Smooth. Tolbert has also collaborated with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, contributing as a songwriter and background vocalist on albums by Earth, Wind & Fire, Janet Jackson, and Usher.
