The London Symphony Orchestra (LSO), founded in 1904, is the oldest symphony orchestra based in London, England. Established by a group of musicians who left Henry Wood's Queen's Hall Orchestra due to a new rule requiring exclusive service, the LSO claims to be the world's most recorded orchestra. It has been making gramophone recordings since 1912 and has contributed to over 200 film soundtracks, including the famous 'Star Wars' series. Consistently ranked among the world's leading orchestras, the LSO has been based in the City of London since 1982. The orchestra has had several principal conductors from 1950 to the present, including notable names in the field.
