Lonnie Duvall was a native of Greenville, Mississippi, known for his musical contributions in the 1960s. He is believed to have first recorded with The Lancers on the song 'Somebody Help Me,' released in November 1965. By 1966, he had teamed up with Natalie Rosenberg, the wife of Stax counsel Seymour Rosenberg, who managed various groups seeking to diversify the Stax label. Duvall released the moody track 'Cigarettes' on the Stax subsidiary Hip in April 1967. Additionally, he recorded an unreleased track titled 'Attention,' likely from earlier, featuring his band at the time, The Candy Shoestring. This track, recorded at Pepper-Tanner Studios, showcases a compelling blend of teen bravado and includes a notable guitar break reminiscent of Dave Davies. Despite Duvall's evident promise as an artist, he departed Stax under reportedly acrimonious circumstances, leaving behind a collection of unissued recordings.
