Lord Flea, often referred to as the "Calypso King of Jamaica," was the island's first international music star, primarily known for his performances of mento, a popular music genre in Jamaica akin to calypso. He gained prominence during the 1950s nightclub scene, captivating audiences with his composition "The Naughty Little Flea" while still a teenager. In 1954, Lord Flea and his band became a sensation at the Glass Bucket nightclub in Kingston, leading to their recruitment to perform in Miami. His songs were later recorded by notable artists such as Harry Belafonte, Miriam Makeba, and Toots and the Maytals. Tragically, Lord Flea passed away in Miami in 1959 at the young age of 27.
