Aldwyn Roberts, better known as Lord Kitchener, was a renowned Trinidadian calypso composer and recording artist, born on April 18, 1922, in Arima, Trinidad and Tobago. He gained international fame as one of the most celebrated calypsonians, with his compositions becoming popular choices for steel bands during the annual National Panorama competition at Trinidad Carnival. Lord Kitchener is perhaps best remembered for his iconic track "London Is The Place For Me," which he performed upon arriving in the UK on the Empire Windrush passenger liner in 1948, singing live for a report by British Pathé News. He passed away on February 11, 2000, in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, at the age of 77.
