**Bio: Lord Nelson (Robert Nelson)** Lord Nelson, born Robert Nelson, is a celebrated calypsonian from Tobago who sought fame in America but found his musical success back home in the Caribbean. Raised in Tobago, he moved to Brooklyn after graduating high school, seeking a better life. Shortly after his arrival, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Korea, where he showcased his talents as a singer and comedian in Army shows. Upon returning to the U.S., Nelson began performing with West Indian steel bands in Brooklyn, gaining popularity by covering calypso hits in his distinctive style. It was through his friendship with fellow calypsonian Mighty Duke that he was inspired to write his own material. Nelson's music blends calypso with American influences, incorporating funk into tracks like "La La" and "King Liar," which became hits in the Caribbean. Although not the first to create soca music, Nelson achieved significant popularity, winning the title of Uncrowned King at Trinidad's annual Carnival in 1989. In 1990, he signed with Shanachie, which enhanced the distribution of his music, allowing him to reach a global audience. His label debut, *When the World Turns Around*, featured a digital remake of his earlier album *Love You Forever*. As the uncle of soca/rapso artist Mojah, Nelson continues to record and perform, remaining an influential figure in the music scene.
