Lords of the Underground is a hip-hop trio hailing from Newark, New Jersey, that gained prominence in the early 1990s. The group consists of members known as , , and . They first captured attention with their debut album, Here Come the Lords (1993), produced by and , featuring hits like "Chief Rocka" and "Funky Child," which became anthems in underground hip-hop. Their follow-up album, Keepers of the Funk (1994), further solidified their status with tracks such as "Tic Toc." Renowned for their high-energy delivery, raw lyricism, and jazz-infused production, they played a significant role in defining the East Coast hip-hop sound of the era. Although their mainstream success waned in the late '90s, they remained active in the underground scene, periodically releasing new music and performing globally. Beyond music, has engaged in politics, serving as a councilman in Newark, while DJ Lord Jazz and Mr. Funke have continued their work in production and DJing.
