Lorraine Johnson, born on January 26, 1949, in Huntsville, Alabama, is a talented female R&B and gospel singer known for her powerful background vocals. Growing up as one of seven children in a family that embraced Primitive Baptist Universalist Church beliefs, Lorraine was immersed in gospel music from a young age, singing in the church choir and learning traditional gospel styles. In the early 1960s, she founded "The Mellowtone Gospel Singers," gaining recognition within the gospel circuit. In 1971, Lorraine recorded "God's Tomorrow Will Be Better Than Today" for Deliverance Records. She later ventured into R&B, releasing her first commercial single, "If You Want Me To Be More Of A Woman, You've Got To Be More Of A Man," through Atlantic Records in 1973. This opened doors for her to provide background vocals in various Muscle Shoals studios. During the mid-1970s, she collaborated with Moses Dillard and Jesse Boyce, who were influential in her career. Lorraine signed with Prelude Records and recorded her debut single, "The More I Get The More I Want," written by McFadden and Whitehead. Although the single did not chart, it became an underground classic. She continued her work with Dillard & Boyce, contributing to the Saturday Night Band's success with "Come On Dance, Dance/Touch Me On My Hot Spot."
