Los Beat 4 was a Chilean rock band formed in Santiago in 1966, recognized as one of the pioneering groups of psychedelic and beat rock in Spanish in Latin America. The original lineup included Willy Benítez (vocals), Reinaldo “Ronnie” Knöll (guitar), Claudio Salinas (bass), and Mario Benítez (drums). The band took its name as a nod to The Beatles but quickly developed its own identity within the Chilean music scene of the late 1960s. Unlike many bands of the Nueva Ola, Los Beat 4 distanced themselves from romantic pop and youth ballads to explore sounds closer to British rock, beat, and psychedelia. They recorded for RCA Victor, releasing their debut album in 1967, "Boots a go go," which mixed original songs with Spanish versions of international hits, noted for its energetic instrumentation and light yet effective lyrics. That same year, they released the single “Dame un bananino,” which became their most recognized song and a classic of Chilean rock from the 1960s. The humorous tone and catchy rhythm of the song solidified the group as a youth phenomenon, enjoying high rotation on radio and television appearances.
