Los Elegantes was a Spanish band formed in 1979, emerging from the vibrant music scene of the late 70s. The group was founded by singer Juan Ignacio de Miguel, known as "el Chicarrón," along with guitarists Juanma del Olmo and Emilio López. They were joined by bassist Javier Teixidor, who helped them release a demo, and later completed their lineup with drummer Carlos Hens and bassist José Luis de la Peña. Initially, Los Elegantes played a mix of rhythm and blues and mod revival music, gaining popularity in live performances. After Juan Ignacio de Miguel's departure, Emilio López took over as the lead singer. The band achieved significant success with their maxi single "La calle del ritmo" and subsequently worked with a producer to create their first album, "¡Ponte ya a bailar!" in 1984, which featured a more synth-based sound and included a hit version of "Zoot Suit," retitled "Mangas Cortas." Despite releasing several albums, they experienced diminishing success and ultimately disbanded in the early 90s. In their early days, they showcased their mod influences and often performed well-known covers. One notable performance was at the "El Salero" venue in Madrid, where they covered "Walking the Dog" by Rufus Thomas, later recording it under the pseudonym "Salero All Stars" as "Quiero ser tu perro Bulldog" for the fanzine "Banana Split."
