**Bio: Los Hicsos** Los Hicsos is a renowned Costa Rican cumbia pop band that originated in 1968. The name "Hicsos," conceived by Flora Matilde Vargas, the only female singer in the band’s history, is derived from the Hellenized Egyptian term for "Foreign Rulers," referencing the Asian warrior people who invaded Egypt in 1674. The group began as Ateneo Christian Youth, founded by Gerardo Ramirez and later expanded to include members such as Roberto Quesada, Rodrigo Salazar, Octavio Pena, Johnny Diaz, Rodolfo Quesada, and Carlos Navarro. They officially debuted on February 14, 1968, at the Cartago City Garden salon, quickly rising to prominence in Costa Rican popular dance music. Los Hicsos became known for their electrifying performances, leading to tours across the United States and Central America, solidifying their status as a symbol of Latin music until their separation in 1996. Afterward, Gerardo Ramirez and Carlos Navarro continued to play music under the name "Recuerdos," performing nostalgic hits from their past. In 2004, the band was reformed as Gerardo Y Los Hicsos with the addition of new members, including Martina.
