Los Sonor was one of the first Spanish pop bands, formed in 1960. They gained popularity by adapting Italian and English songs, such as "Unchained Melody," which they titled "Melodía desencadenada." The band also modernized traditional songs, including "Los cuatro muleros," "El relicario-twist," "Campanilleros," and "Malagueña." The original lineup consisted of Carlos Guitart (bass), José Luis "Joe" González (piano, organ), José Antonio Otero (guitar), and Manuel Escobar (vocals). Otero was briefly replaced by Luis Eduardo Aute and later by Fernando Sánchez. In 1962, he was replaced by Manolo Díaz, and the band added drummer Jorge Matey. In 1963, Díaz left for Liberia and was succeeded by Tony Martínez. In 1965, Martínez and Manolo Fernández, who had replaced Joe González in 1964, left to form a new group with Mike Kennedy. Shortly thereafter, Carlos Guitart joined "Los Flecos," and Jorge Matey also left. Joe González founded a new band in 1964, while Manolo Díaz embarked on a solo career as a composer and producer.
