Lou Blackburn was an American jazz trombonist born on November 12, 1922, in Rankin, Pennsylvania. He passed away on June 7, 1990, in Berlin, Germany. In the 1950s, Blackburn played swing music alongside notable musicians such as Lionel Hampton and Charlie Ventura. In the early 1960s, he transitioned to the West Coast jazz and soul jazz genres, collaborating with artists like Cat Anderson and Charles Mingus. He also worked as a session musician, contributing to recordings by the Turtles, the Righteous Brothers, and the Beach Boys, among others. In 1970, Blackburn moved to Europe, initially residing in Germany and later in Switzerland. He founded the Afro-pop ensemble Mombasa and played in a Krautrock band.
