Louis Johnson (born April 13, 1955, in Los Angeles, California – died May 21, 2015, in Las Vegas, Nevada) was an American R&B, soul, funk, and jazz bassist and vocalist. In 1975, he formed a group with his brother. Johnson was also a sought-after session musician, contributing to numerous releases in the 1970s and 1980s, including albums by Michael Jackson such as "Off The Wall," "Thriller," and "Dangerous." He was renowned for his distinctive slapping technique on the bass guitar, earning him the nickname "Thunder Thumbs." He was also a cousin of another musician.
