Lou Pride, born on May 24, 1950, in North Chicago, Illinois, was an American singer and songwriter known for his soulful music. He began performing solo at a young age, receiving support from local pastors, including Reverend Edward J. Cole, the father of Nat King Cole. In the late 1960s, Lou spent two years stationed on U.S. Army bases in Germany, where he joined a group called The Karls. Upon returning to Chicago, he formed a duet with a friend, LC, called LC & Lou, inspired by the style of Sam & Dave. Lou's manager, Jim Dorman, encouraged him to pursue a solo career, leading him to relocate to El Paso, Texas. In El Paso, Lou met Kenny Smith, who signed him to Suemi Records, a label known for its diverse roster of country and rockabilly artists. Over the years, Lou signed with various small labels, but a significant period of recording and releasing albums began when Curtis Mayfield, a family friend, invited him to work alongside him in Atlanta. Lou Pride developed a strong following in the UK, where he toured to great acclaim, largely due to the enduring popularity of his track "I'm Com'un Home In The Morn'un." He passed away on May 6, 2012.
