Louie Ramírez was an American percussionist, vibraphonist, band leader, and composer, known for his contributions to boogaloo, salsa, and Latin jazz. Born on February 24, 1938, in New York City, New York, he passed away on June 7, 1993, in Queens, New York City, at the age of 55. Throughout his career, he recorded numerous albums across various labels, showcasing a range of instrumentations from big band to conjunto to septet. In the 1960s, he became a prominent member of the Alegre All-Stars, where he contributed as a clave player, vibes player, arranger, and co-leader alongside Charlie Palmieri and Al Santiago, the founder of Alegre Records. In the 1970s and 1980s, Ramírez served as a staff producer and arranger for the Alegre, Tico, Vaya, and International labels, producing and arranging countless releases. Tragically, he suffered a fatal heart attack while driving along Junction Boulevard in Queens, New York, while recording his third album with a singer titled "Preparate Bailador." He has been referred to as "the [missing information] of salsa."
