Louis Armstrong, born on August 4, 1901, in New Orleans, Louisiana, was an American jazz trumpeter, cornetist, singer, and bandleader, famously known as "Satchmo" or "Pops." He played a crucial role in the second wave of jazz, particularly in the Swing era. Armstrong was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 1990 as an Early Influence. He won one Grammy Award for Best Vocal Performance, Male. He passed away on July 6, 1971, in New York City, New York.
