Lucky Hill, born on January 11, 1931, in Kentucky, was known as the "Singing Blues Boy." He began his radio career in 1947 at WTFM in Tiffin, Ohio. In May 1957, he joined the Air Force and was stationed at Whiteman Air Force Base, located about 20 miles west of Sedalia, Missouri. During his time in the Air Force, he worked as a deejay and performer, signing with Starday Records in 1957. Hill eventually settled in Sedalia, where he served as an editor at the Sedalia Democrat newspaper in the early 1960s. After his passing in 2014, his daughter discovered an unpublished manuscript he had written about Scott Joplin's time in Sedalia, which was published in 2020 under the title "A Cradle for Ragtime: The Saga of Scott Joplin" by William D. Hill.
