Christopher Brian Bridges, better known by his stage name Ludacris, was born on September 11, 1977, in Champaign, Illinois. He is an American rapper and actor of African American and Native American descent. Ludacris co-founded an imprint with his manager, Chaka Zulu, and has achieved significant commercial success, selling 17 million albums in the United States and 24 million records worldwide. Throughout his career, he has won numerous awards, including the Screen Actors Guild, Critic's Choice, MTV, and Grammy Awards. Ludacris wrote his first rap song at the age of nine after moving to Atlanta, where he joined an amateur rap group three years later. He attended Banneker High School in Atlanta and studied music management at Georgia State University from 1998 to 1999. He initially worked as a radio editor under the pseudonym "DJ Chris Lova Lova" at HOT 97.5 FM WHTA in Atlanta. His big break came when he performed on the track "Phat Rabbit" from Timbaland's 1998 album, Tim's Bio: Life from da Bassment. His major label debut, "Back for the First Time," was released in October 2000 and was a modified re-release of his 1998 album "Incognegro." The album reached #4 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and featured successful singles such as "Southern Hospitality" and "What's Your Fantasy."
