Luigi Boccherini was an Italian composer and cellist born on February 19, 1743, in Lucca, Italy. He passed away on May 28, 1805, in Madrid, Spain. Boccherini was a prominent figure of the Classical era, known for his music that retained a courtly and galante style, even as he developed somewhat independently from the major European musical centers. He is best remembered for a four-minute minuet from his String Quintet in E, Op. 11, No. 5 (G 275), which is considered an all-time classic.
