Luis E. Bacalov (August 30, 1933 – November 15, 2017) was an Argentinian-born Italian pianist and composer renowned for his contributions to cinema and classical music. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, he began his music education at the age of five under Enrique Baremboim and later studied with Berta Sujovolsky. Bacalov performed as a soloist and collaborated with violinist Alberto Lisy, as well as participating in various chamber music ensembles. From the 1960s onward, he became an active composer for film in Italy and France, working with notable directors such as Lattuada, Damiani, Scola, and Fellini. His soundtrack for "Il Postino," directed by Michael Radford, garnered multiple awards and nominations, including the Davide di Donatello and an Oscar nomination. He was also recognized for his work on "La Tregua" and "Vangelo secondo Matteo." In addition to film composition, Bacalov was a conductor and pianist for various broadcasting companies and concert associations across Europe, the USA, and Latin America. He performed traditional and contemporary repertoire, including works by Latin American composers and his own compositions. Notably, he composed "Misa Tango," which featured renowned soloists and was performed at the Easter Festival in Rome.
