Luis Morais was a renowned Cape Verdean musician, songwriter, arranger, and clarinetist, celebrated as one of the greatest musicians from Cape Verde. He was a pioneer in the early recordings made in the country. Morais learned to play and compose music in Dakar, Senegal, before moving to Rotterdam, Netherlands, and later to Lisbon, Portugal. Born on February 10, 1935, in Mindelo, São Vicente Island, Cape Verde, he passed away on September 25, 2002, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, USA.
