Luiz Carlos Paraná was a musician, composer, and self-taught guitar player born on March 15, 1932, in Ribeirão Claro, PR. He played a significant role in various music scenes, notably sharing a room with João Gilberto during his time in Rio. In the 1960s, he relocated to São Paulo, where he became the artistic director of João Sebastião Bar, the venue that hosted Chico Buarque's first live performance, brought in by Jorge Mautner. Later in the decade, he founded Jogral, a small bar that became a gathering place for artists, poets, and musicians. Among those he collaborated with was Paulo Vanzolini, with whom he frequently engaged in "duel" challenges known as porfias. Luiz Carlos Paraná passed away on December 3, 1970, in São Paulo, SP.
