**Bio: Luke Jordan** Luke Jordan was a country blues guitarist and vocalist born on January 28, 1892, in either Bluefield, West Virginia, or Appomattox County, Virginia. He passed away on June 25, 1952, in Lynchburg, Virginia. There is some conflict regarding his birthplace, with some sources indicating Appomattox County, while his World War I draft registration card states he was born in Lynchburg. Jordan's professional music career began at the age of 35 when he was discovered by Victor Records. In 1927, he traveled to Charlotte, North Carolina, to record several tracks, which sold moderately well. This led to additional recording sessions in New York in 1929. Unlike many of his contemporaries in the Delta blues scene, Jordan was known for his smooth and relaxed tenor voice. During the Great Depression, he remained in Lynchburg, often playing near a local shoe factory. However, by the 1940s, he had lost his singing voice and ceased performing. Jordan's later life was marked by struggles with addiction; he was known to be a cocaine addict in his youth and later became a heavy alcoholic, which affected his ability to maintain steady employment. He filled out a second draft registration card for World War II in 1942 while living in Lynchburg and was unemployed at that time. He died in Lynchburg in June 1952, and his gravestone is located at Forest Hill Burial Park
