Lung Overcoat is an American post-punk, synth-rock band from San Antonio, Texas. The group's roots trace back to 1981 when they were known as Platform of Youth, featuring members on guitar, Smart on bass and vocals, and a drummer who later created the name Lung Overcoat, which the band adopted in 1983 after his departure. Their first vinyl release included both Platform of Youth material and new songs, with the addition of keyboardist Richard Kernaghan and a studio drummer. Drummer Kim Warman joined the band after this recording. Their second release, "Climbing Up the Hill," featured a new keyboardist and drummer and is recognized as one of the earliest synthpop vinyl releases from San Antonio. Throughout their six-year history, Lung Overcoat toured the United States and supported acts such as Public Image Ltd, March Violets, the Butthole Surfers, Poison 13, Section 25, the B-52s, and A Flock of Seagulls. The band disbanded in 1987.
