Lungfish is an American post-hardcore band formed in 1987 in Baltimore, Maryland. The band originated from a collaboration between vocalist Daniel Higgs and bassist John Chriest, who created sound collages and loops for Higgs' poetry readings. They were later joined by guitarist Asa Osborne, who had previously played in a hardcore band with Higgs, and drummer Mitchell Feldstein. Early on, Higgs moved to San Francisco, creating uncertainty about the band's future. Lungfish released their debut record, "Necklace of Heads," as a document of their songs up to that point, which garnered positive responses and led to touring, primarily in collaboration with Dischord Records. After the release of "Pass and Stow" in 1994, Chriest left the band and was replaced by Sean Meadows. Nathan Bell took over as bassist starting with the 1998 album "Artificial Horizon," but Meadows returned for the 2003 LP "Love Is Love." Lungfish has been on indefinite hiatus since 2006.
