Lyrics Born, born Tsutomu "Tom" Shimura on September 2, 1972, in Tokyo, Japan, is a Japanese-American funk and alternative hip hop rapper, singer, and producer. Raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Berkeley, California, he continues to reside in Berkeley. He is known for his work with the Quannum Projects label and his notable partnership with various artists. Lyrics Born debuted with the album "Later that Day..." in 2003, and many of his songs have been featured in movies. His wife, Filipino-American, has appeared on every album he has released and tours with him annually. Together, they co-founded Quannum MC's.
