Maajo is a sonic, linguistic, and cultural melting pot based in Tampere, Finland, blending tropical influences with the cold northern atmosphere. Their music journey spans from equatorial soundscapes to the serene woods of Scandinavia, incorporating African influences, electronic beats, organic rhythms, ethereality, and the sounds of nature into a unique patchwork sound. Originally a sample-based electronic music project, Maajo has evolved into a full-sized band featuring African vocalists and musicians. They have released two full-length albums and three EPs through Queen Nanny Records, as well as a release on the German label Permanent Vacation. Maajo has garnered remixes from notable artists like Luke Vibert and Call Super and has toured internationally at festivals and clubs. The band has developed a dedicated global following, receiving support from influential figures such as Gilles Peterson (Worldwide FM), Tom Ravenscroft (BBC Radio 6), and Tim Sweeney (Beats In Space). Their work has also been featured by KEXP (Song of the Day), Resident Advisor, Ransom Note, and Pan-African Music.
