Maceo Parker is an American funk and jazz saxophonist, best known for his work with James Brown. He was born on February 14, 1943, in Kinston, North Carolina. Maceo was introduced to James Brown's band in 1963 when his brother, a drummer, landed a spot with the group. Initially playing baritone sax, he soon switched to tenor sax and became an integral member of Brown's band. In 1970, after a fallout among bandmates, Maceo led a group that recorded and toured independently. He rejoined Brown's touring band in 1973 but parted ways again in 1974. Maceo then became involved with various projects, including collaborations with other artists. In 1984, he signed with James Brown for another four-year stint. By 1990, Maceo had established himself as a solo act, releasing jazz-flavored albums in the early '90s. However, by 1992, he was touring extensively and focusing on funk music. His 1992 release showcased his live performances alongside longtime collaborators. He has since contributed to numerous studio and live efforts of other artists. Maceo is also the father of an unnamed individual.
