Machine Head is an American groove metal band formed in 1992 in Oakland, California. The band was started by ex-member Robb Flynn, who recruited his roommate Adam Duce on bass guitar, long-time friend Phil Demmel on guitar, and drummer Dave McClain. Since its inception, Machine Head has faced numerous line-up changes and struggles with drug abuse. Despite the initial success of their first album, Machine Head faced criticism for "selling out" with subsequent releases. The band nearly disbanded in 2002 after being dropped by their label but re-signed soon after, achieving a stable line-up from 2003 to 2013, which included former member Chris Kontos. In 2007, Machine Head received a Grammy Award nomination for their album "The Blackening." However, by 2013, the line-up became unstable again with the departures of three long-time members: Adam Duce left in 2013 after 21 years, Phil Demmel left in 2018 after 24 years, and Dave McClain left in 2018 after 16 years. In 2019, Flynn announced a 25th-anniversary tour of the band's debut album "Burn My Eyes," featuring two sets with different line-ups, one performing the album in its entirety with former members and another set with current members along with additional musicians. As of now, the current members include Robb Flynn on guitar and vocals (1992-present), Jared MacEach
