Madlib, born on October 24, 1973, in Oakland, California, is a multi-genre producer, MC, instrumentalist, and avid crate digger and record collector. He is the son of a soul singer, the older brother of another artist, the nephew of jazz trumpeter, and the cousin of a notable musician. Growing up in the beach town of Oxnard, 40 miles north of Los Angeles, Madlib emerged as a prominent figure in late-'90s hip-hop. He formed the group Lootpack with childhood friends DJ Romes and Wild Child, making their debut on tha Alkaholiks' album "21 and Over" in 1993. The trio released their full-length album "Soundpieces: Da Antidote" in 1999, which received solid reviews but went largely unnoticed. However, Madlib's talent did not go unrecognized. After teaming up with DJ Peanut Butter Wolf, he produced many tracks for Wolf's Stones Throw label. In 1999, the label released "The Unseen LP" by Quasimoto, Madlib's alter ego, which showcased his skills in both vocals and production and garnered critical acclaim. In 2000, Madlib continued to innovate with his Yesterday's New Quintet project, where he played all the instruments himself, blending jazz with his unique style. Throughout his career, he has maintained a prolific output, completing various projects including a remix for Blue Note, collaborations with Jay Dee
