Madness is an English ska, 2 tone, and pop band formed in 1976 in Camden Town, London. The band briefly split between 1986 and 1992, during which time four members continued as a separate act. Since their reunion, they have continued to perform with their most recognized line-up of seven members. Madness was one of the most prominent bands of the late 1970s and early 1980s 2 Tone ska revival, achieving significant success between 1979 and the mid-1980s. They, along with UB40, spent 214 weeks on the UK singles charts during the 1980s, holding the record for the most weeks spent by a group in that decade, although Madness achieved this in a shorter time frame from 1980 to 1986.
