Madonna is an American singer, entertainer, songwriter, actress, producer, director, and businesswoman born on August 16, 1958, in Bay City, Michigan. After performing in music groups, she signed with a record label in 1982 and released her debut album the following year. Madonna has released a series of commercially successful albums and has sold more than 400 million records worldwide, earning recognition from Guinness World Records as the best-selling female recording artist of all time. She is honorifically dubbed "the Queen of Pop" and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in her first year of eligibility. Additionally, she was ranked number one on VH1’s 100 Greatest Women in Music list and number two on Billboard’s Greatest Hot 100 Artists of All Time, making her the most successful solo artist in the history of the American singles chart.
