**Maestro Fresh Wes Bio** Wesley Williams, born on March 31, 1968, in Toronto, Ontario, is a Canadian rapper, record producer, and actor, widely recognized as the "Godfather of Canadian Hip Hop." In 1989, he made history as the first Canadian rapper to achieve a Top 40 hit with "Let Your Backbone Slide." In 1991, he collaborated on the single "Can't Repress the Cause," advocating for greater inclusion of hip hop in the Canadian music scene alongside a supergroup of Toronto-area musicians. Following the success of his 1991 album "The Black Tie Affair," Maestro faced challenges breaking into the U.S. market but made a comeback in 1998 with hit singles "Stick to Your Vision" and "416/905 (T.O. Party Anthem)." In 2000, he featured on the track "Bustin Loose" alongside Kardinal Offishall. He also covered Lawrence Gowan's song "A Criminal Mind" in 2005, with Gowan appearing in the video and performing the song with Maestro at the Canadian Urban Music Awards in 2006. That same year, Maestro made Canadian hip hop history by showcasing at Midem in Cannes, France, as part of The Dope Poet Society, marking the first appearance of Canadian hip hop acts at the influential music industry conference.
