Maggi Payne is a composer, flautist, interdisciplinary artist, and recording engineer known for her works in electronic and visual media. A graduate of Mills College, she served as a professor and co-director of the College's Center for Contemporary Music from 1992 to 2018, having begun her teaching career there in 1972, focusing on recording engineering, composition, and electronic music. Payne has received awards including grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Mellon Foundation. Her work has been showcased at various festivals and events, including Sonic Circuits IV, Next Wave Festival, eXstatic Project in Australia, Prix Ars Electronica, SoundCulture '96, Siggraph, and Bourges.
