Magic Mushroom is a band originally founded in 1982, known for their "psychedelic space pop" sound. The founding members include Gary Masters on guitar, Kim Russell on vocals, along with a guitarist, a bassist, and a drummer who completed the lineup. They later established their own label and collaborated with other artists. Kim Russell eventually changed her name to Kim Masters. In 1989, after drummer Jim Lacey was replaced by another drummer, the band began to explore Ambient-Dub and later ventured into Goa, Trance, and House music with their side project, Astralasia. Despite still identifying primarily as the Magic Mushroom Band, Astralasia quickly gained popularity, leading the members to focus more on the side project. Following the departure of founding members Gary Moonboot and Kim Oz, the band has been "on hold" since 1995, while Astralasia remains active and continues to thrive.
