Magic Mushroom Band was originally founded in 1982 as a "psychedelic space pop" band by Gary Masters (guitar), Kim Russell (vocals), and other members who played guitar, bass, and drums. They later formed their own label and collaborated with various artists. Kim Russell changed her name to Kim Masters. In 1989, after drummer Jim Lacey was replaced by a new member, the band began to explore Ambient-Dub and eventually delved into Goa, Trance, and House music through their side project, Astralasia. Despite the success of Astralasia, the founding members Gary Moonboot and Kim Oz left, and the band has been "on hold" since 1995. However, the side project Astralasia remains active.
