Magupi is a World Beat Roots Music project based in Portugal, led by musician Márcio Pinto. With a degree in Classical Percussion, Márcio is a member of several well-known Portuguese bands and has a deep passion for exotic and tribal rhythms. His journey to Western Africa has enriched his knowledge of traditional percussion, particularly the balophone, also known as the marimba. Since 2017, he has been developing MaguPi, an electroacoustic project that uniquely blends African sounds and rhythms. Márcio has also played as a drummer and percussionist for various groups, including Terrakota, Olivetreedance, Selma Uamousse, and the Oporto Symphonic Orchestra, among others.
