The Main Ingredient was a soul-funk group originally formed with members Donald McPherson, Luther Simmons Jr., and Tony Silvester. McPherson was born on July 9, 1941, and passed away on July 4, 1971. Simmons was born on September 9, 1942, and Silvester was born on October 7, 1941, in Panama, and he died on November 26, 2006. The group released their first singles under a different name, which should not be confused with another act that released "She Blew A Good Thing" in 1966. From 1967 to 1970, they were known by another name before finally renaming themselves "The Main Ingredient" in late 1970. Cuba Gooding joined the group in 1971, replacing McPherson, but left in 1978 to pursue a solo career.
