Majik, real name James Spratling, is a prominent figure in the drum and bass scene, having debuted in 1993 with tracks for the Planet Earth label. As one of the youngest members of the Metalheadz stable, he quickly gained recognition for his dark, intricate drum and bass lines, often infused with jazzy elements, such as the Spanish guitar featured in his first Metalheadz single, "Your Sound." Growing up in Northwood, on the edge of North West London, Majik began DJing in his early teens and initially recorded under the name DJ Dexxtrous. In 1995, he adopted the alias J. Majik for his breakout track "Your Sound," which became a classic and appeared on the Metalheadz Platinum Breakz compilation in 1996. He continued to release notable singles for Metalheadz, including "Jim Kutta" and "Arabian Knights," and also worked with Mo'Wax and his own label, Infrared, which released his debut LP, Slow Motion, in mid-1997. Majik achieved further success in 2002, becoming one of the few drum and bass artists to reach the UK Top 40 with "Love is Not A Game" on Defected Records.
