Malaria! was a pioneering all-female band formed in Berlin in 1981 by Gudrun Gut and Bettina Köster. Emerging from the city’s vibrant post-punk scene, the group fused dark, minimalist electronics with raw, percussive energy and evocative vocals, helping define Germany’s early new wave and industrial sound. Known for tracks like “Kaltes Klares Wasser” and collaborations with acts such as Einstürzende Neubauten, Malaria! gained underground acclaim across Europe and the U.S., influencing generations of experimental and electronic artists that followed.
