Malcolm X, born Malcolm Little on May 19, 1925, in Omaha, Nebraska, faced a tumultuous childhood marked by tragedy, including the murder of his father and the destruction of his home by the Ku Klux Klan. After spending time in prison, where he educated himself in various subjects, he became a Muslim minister and follower of Elijah Muhammad. Later, he converted to Sunni Islam, making a pilgrimage to Mecca and advocating for unity, human rights, and self-determination worldwide. Malcolm X emerged as a powerful activist for Black freedom in the United States, initially viewing all whites as adversaries but later acknowledging that some were sincere allies. His growing influence made him a target, and a week before his assassination, his home was fire-bombed while he and his family were inside. On February 21, 1965, Malcolm X was assassinated, but his voice, message, and spirit continue to resonate. He famously stated, "White, black, brown, red, yellow. It doesn't make any difference what color you are. The only thing power respects is power."
