Malombo is a pioneering South African group whose innovative blend of African rhythms, jazz, and spiritual music helped define a unique sonic identity in the 1960s and beyond. Centered around the talents of drummer Julian Bahula, guitarist Abbey Cindi, and flutist Philip Tabane (who later led his own version of Malombo), the ensemble fused indigenous percussion and melodies with improvisational freedom. Their sound became a cornerstone of South African jazz, influencing generations and earning recognition for bringing authentic African expression to the global stage.
