Malombo is a renowned musical group based in Mamelodi, Pretoria, and is led by multi-instrumentalists. One of South Africa's longest-standing groups, Malombo has played a significant role in shaping and inspiring the musical careers of many artists. Originally formed in the 1960s as a duo featuring a flutist and a percussionist, the group evolved into Malombo with Tabane, who has enlisted and trained a succession of musicians over the years. The current lineup includes a guitarist and vocalist, a Malombo drummer, a percussionist, and Thabang Tabane on Malombo drums and percussion. Their instrumentation is unconventional, featuring African drums and hand percussion that interplay with Tabane’s distinctive guitar, vocal, and flute sounds.
